Road Week Ahead: March 31 – April 4

Here’s what’s on tap for Lake County commuters this week: A (temporarily) two-lane Tri-State for Monday morning’s commute, the last of the Lake County Community Forums, a Town Hall meeting, and a 60-degree exit for March.

The two remaining Lake County Community Forums will be held this week. Monday’s event takes place in Lake Zurich and Tuesday’s happens in Gurnee. The “What’s Going On?” Lake County Motorist Calendar lists the dates and locations for the other forums should you want to add them to your own Google Calendar.

Speaking of forums, a Town Hall meeting is scheduled for Monday night at Lakes Community High School. Details are available via the Calendar.

Monday’s temporary lane closures on the North Tri-State Tollway:

  • Commuter alert: One southbound center lane will be closed for bridgework between O’Plaine Road and the Des Plaines River during the day, starting at 7 a.m.. Morning rushers will be squeezed onto the leftmost and rightmost lanes.
  • One northbound lane will be closed near Mill Creek Road during the day.
  • One northbound lane will be closed south of Half-Day Road during the day.
  • Overnight northbound closures between Route 120 and O’Plaine Road will begin at 9 p.m.

Lake County DOT roadwork update: Traffic signals are coming to the Aptakisic Road and Brandywyn Lane intersection in Buffalo Grove, and to the Gilmer Road and Fremont Center Road intersection in Fremont Township.

This Lake County (and Gilmer Road) Motorist hopes that the new signal’s timing will be integrated with those of nearby Route 176 and Hawley Road signals. Otherwise, the already massive morning backups will surely increase.

Stay informed with the Illinois DOT construction update report.

Interstate 94 weather report: Out like a lamb? Maybe a lamb with a lion’s claws. Monday’s high could reach 60 degrees with rain and thunderstorms. All the better to melt the dirty snow mountains still holding fort in northern Lake County. Showers may return on Thursday. Fortunately, no snow is forecasted, but that could always change in Chicagoland.
