Road Week Ahead: April 21 – April 25

Here’s what’s on tap for Lake County commuters this week: Warm weather, a vigorous return to roadwork, and a handful of commute-challenging lane closures on the Tri-State.

Monday’s temporary lane closures on the North Tri-State Tollway:

  • Commuter alert: One southbound center lane will be closed for bridgework between O’Plaine Road and the Des Plaines River during the day, starting at 7 a.m.
  • Commuter alert: One southbound lane will be closed from Stearns School Road to Wadsworth Road from 7 a.m. to noon.
  • Overnight northbound lane closures between Duffy Lane and Route 60 begin at 8 p.m.
  • Overnight lane closures between Everett Road and the Lake Forest Oasis – one lane in each direction – begin at 8 p.m.
  • Overnight northbound lane closures between Route 176 and O’Plaine Road in both directions begin at 8 p.m.
  • Early-morning commuter alert: An early-morning southbound lane closure between O’Plaine Road and Des Plaines River is scheduled from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Northbound Wilmot Road will close April 21 for approximately three weeks. The closure has been forewarned for several weeks, and was delayed from its original March start date. The Village of Deerfield has posted a detour map on its web site.

The Lake County DOT has kicked the construction engine into gear, as evidenced by these updates:

  • A new bike path and underpass will be constructed on Deerfield Road between Riverwoods Road and Wilmot Road. From the LCDOT website, “expect delays near the tollway southbound entrance ramp”.
  • Work has also resumed on the Everett Road bike path and road resurfacing project in Lincolnshire/Lake Forest/Mettawa. The construction’s terminus is the Riverwoods Road and Everett Road intersection, home of one of the biggest rush-hour traffic backups in Lake County. This intersection is especially popular during Friday afternoon rush.

Stay up-to-date with the Illinois DOT construction update report.

Interstate 94 weather report: 60- and 70-degree days ahead, with a chance of storms Tuesday and Friday. Beware of spring fever, which usually breaks out about this time every year.
