Road Week Ahead – April 28 – May 2

Here’s what’s on tap for Lake County commuters this week: Railroad crossing improvements in Buffalo Grove, rain’s on the way, and Gurnee residents get their say.

Monday’s temporary lane closures on the North Tri-State Tollway:

  • Commuter alert: One southbound center lane will be closed for bridgework between O’Plaine Road and the Des Plaines River during the day, starting at 7 a.m. Although this is considered a temporary closure, it has occurred every Monday for the past few weeks.
  • One northbound lane will be closed for bridgework between the Des Plaines River and O’Plaine Road from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Lanes will be closed in both directions between O’Plaine and the Des Plaines River Monday night, with the northbound closure beginning at 9 p.m. Overnight closures are scheduled to reopen by 6 a.m. Tuesday.
  • Northbound lanes will be closed overnight from Duffy Lane to the Lake Forest Oasis.
  • Southbound lanes will be closed overnight between Bradley Road and O’Plaine Road.
Deerfield Parkway

Lake County DOT roadwork update: Deerfield Parkway will be closed April 30 – May 6 from Weiland Road to Milwaukee Avenue for railroad crossing improvements. This area may be familiar to commuters, as it is located near the Metra North Central line’s Buffalo Grove station. The Village of Buffalo Grove suggests using Aptakisic Road as an alternate.

Pace will detour its Route 272 buses via Busch Parkway.

Stay in-the-know with the Illinois DOT construction update report.

Interstate 94 weather report: Chilly temps and showers kick off the week, with warming and a return to rain by Friday. Rumor has it that we may get a few snow flakes early in the week; I surely hope this one doesn’t pan out!

Gurnee residents: On Saturday May 3, the Village of Gurnee is hosting the second of two Public Focus Groups as part of its Strategic Planning Initiative. More information is available on the village’s web site.

  1. Russ says:

Buffalo Grove happens to be my local Metra train station. I commute daily to UIC from here. I am constantly seeing cars doing u-turns after they see the barricaded crossing.

  2. I’ve avoided the area around the Buffalo Grove station during the construction, but I’m curious: Are commuters still able to access any of the parking lots, or are people parking further away and walking a longer distance to reach the station?

  3. Russ says:

The lots are open. The closing was only at the crossing. As a matter of fact, Deerfield seemed to be open today as well. Maybe they’ll close it up again.
