Loss of lane brings newfound frustration

A funny thing happened along Lake-Cook Road east of the Tri-State last week: One of the lanes was taken away. Seemingly, everyone was caught off-guard. Traffic was backed up for miles, with a mix of motorists and Pace shuttle buses going nowhere fast.

A wet welcome to the workweek

Today’s unseasonably warm and stormy weather made for a soggy, slow evening commute. There was an accident on eastbound Lake-Cook Road, and gapers slowed the westbound drive. It was dark, so I couldn’t see the condition of the vehicles, but at least one ambulance left the scene. I hope those involved will be OK.

All weather issues considered, I guess the drive wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been (those involved in accidents may disagree). I think traffic may have been slightly light because it’s a Monday, although it is many people’s first day back at work after the holidays.

Tomorrow is Terrible Traffic Tuesday. Maybe I’ll take the train.

January 7 – 11: Off-Peak Closures on Lake Cook Road

From the Illinois Tollway’s website:

Off-peak daytime lane closures continue next week on Lake Cook Road between Sanders Road and Wilmot Road for pavement reconstruction work. One lane in each direction will close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, January 7. The same closure is scheduled daily through Friday, January 11.

This is a heavily-trafficked area, and although this round of closings will occur during the standard workday, those that work at one of the many area companies are reminded to avoid this area if possible.
