A tragedy: Cyclist killed by hit-and-run driver in Ingleside. My sympathies go out to his family and friends.
The saddest part of this story, besides the loss of life, is that the motorist cowardly fled the scene. I hope that the driver that struck this cyclist comes forward soon and speaks with the authorities. The issue of fault is irrelevant right now; what is immediately needed is a display of responsible citizenry by this motorist.
A few commenters to the Daily Herald article remarked about the victim’s bicycling in winter. I’m amazed by the hardiness of winter cyclists. Personally, when the temps drop below 40 and ice appears on the ground I’m averse to any open-air high-speed movement. That said, there is no law against winter cycling but road and weather conditions mean every motorist must be more vigilant of others sharing the road.
